The Club's History
Carluke Golf Club was founded and formed in 1894. The land owned
by Carluke G.C. is part of the old Carluke Parish, which, around the
19th century, was still part of the Royal forest that was divided up
by Robert the Bruce and gifted to supporters of his cause. Hallcraig
house was sited on that area of ground behind the present 9th tee. Dwelling
houses from the time still remain on the hillside to the left of the
10th green. Amongst the founders were James Hozier of Newlands, Mr C.
Easton and Mr M. Pillans. In 1864 part of the Mauldslie estate was purchased
by Coltness Iron Company for the mining of ironstone and after negotiations
with the Iron Company in 1910 the club moved to its present postion
at Hallcraig.
It had taken until 1974 before Carluke G.C. eventually purchased the
land from Lanark County Council and in 1975 the Golf Club were proud
to have Sam Torrance play an exhibition match before a large gallery.
1977 was a special year for the club winning the Lanarkshire (LGA)
1st Division Championship for the first time.
Previous to our current professional joining the club, we were fortunate
to have a former Walker Cup player from 1969, Andrew Brooks, as club
professional then to be followed by his son Michael who had a very
successful Amateur career representing Scotland in many parts of the
world.
Carluke G.C. celebrated its centenary year in 1994 and since then
has continually contributed to the community in Carluke and more importantly
with various events throughout the year for which we are eternally
grateful to the members and visitors who support these charity events.
